1. Who you're contracting with
Fairlie is operated by Joshua McAspurn, trading as Fairlie (a sole trader), referred to as "we"/"us" throughout these Terms.
2. Acceptance
By creating a Fairlie account or using the Fairlie app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use Fairlie.
3. What Fairlie is
Fairlie is a golf strokes-gained tracking and coaching app. It lets Players log rounds and practice sessions, see strokes-gained statistics, and optionally connect with a Coach who can view (but not edit) their data and leave notes and drills.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Fairlie account.
5. Your account
- Sign-in is passwordless — we email you a one-time link. Keep access to your email account secure, since anyone with access to it can sign in as you.
- You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter (e.g. your handicap, round scores).
- One account per person. Don't create an account on someone else's behalf without their knowledge.
6. Player and Coach roles
- Players log their own rounds and practice sessions and retain full control over that data — you can edit or delete anything you've logged, at any time.
- Coaches can connect with Players only through a mutual process: a Coach shares a join code, a Player submits a request to join using it, and the Coach must explicitly approve that specific request. A Coach never gets access to a Player's data without that Player's active approval.
- A Coach can view a linked Player's rounds and practice history, but cannot edit or delete a Player's own logged data. A Coach can write notes about a Player and assign them drills — a Player can read but not edit or delete a Coach's notes.
- Either party can end the coaching relationship at any time (a Player can disconnect from their Coach; a Coach can remove a Player from their roster).
7. Free and Pro tiers
- Fairlie is offered in a Free tier and a Pro tier. Pro unlocks additional features (such as scratch/handicap-tier benchmarking, club-level and dispersion analytics, and practice drills); the specific feature set may change over time.
- There is currently no self-service purchase flow. Pro access is granted manually, at our discretion, rather than through an automated subscription/payment system. If a paid, self-service Pro subscription is introduced in future, these Terms will be updated to describe the purchase, billing, and cancellation process before that happens.
- We may change what's included in Free vs. Pro, or end a Pro grant, with reasonable notice where practical.
8. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you create in Fairlie — your round data, practice logs, and (if you're a Coach) the notes you write. By using Fairlie, you grant us a licence to store, process, and display that content back to you (and, where you've approved it, to your connected Coach or Player) solely for the purpose of operating the app.
9. Acceptable use
Don't use Fairlie to:
- Impersonate someone else or create an account under a false identity
- Attempt to access another user's account or data without authorisation
- Interfere with or disrupt the app's operation
- Use the coach-code/join-request system to contact or add players without their genuine, informed consent
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
10. Data accuracy and strokes-gained calculations
- Course and yardage data comes from a third-party provider (golfapi.uk) and, while we aim for accuracy, we can't guarantee every course or hole is perfectly represented.
- Strokes-gained figures shown in Fairlie are calculated estimates based on your own logged data, benchmarked against reference scoring averages. They're a useful training tool, not an official or certified statistic, and shouldn't be treated as equivalent to tour-level strokes-gained data (which uses licensed shot-tracking systems Fairlie doesn't have access to).
11. Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from your profile in the app. This permanently and immediately deletes your profile, rounds, practice sessions, and coach-relationship data — it cannot be undone. If you're a Coach, deleting your account disconnects (but does not delete) your players' own accounts.
12. Service availability
Fairlie is provided free of charge, on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue features (or the service as a whole) at any time. We'll try to give reasonable notice of anything significant.
13. Disclaimers
Fairlie is a training and tracking tool, not professional coaching, medical, or fitness advice. Nothing in the app should be treated as a substitute for guidance from a qualified golf professional, especially regarding technique changes or physical exertion.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fairlie is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of Fairlie. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for anything that can't legally be limited, such as death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you directly. Continuing to use Fairlie after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
